What’s not to like? Fairytale castles, charming cities, pedestrian (and bike) friendly streets, friendly folks. No wonder cruise passengers are converging on Copenhagen like never before. The Danish capital posted a record 280 cruise ship calls last year and is forecasting even more in 2005. If you plan to cruise from Copenhagen, plan ahead. And while you’re there, get around like the locals. Instead of joining the hordes of cruise passengers who opt for bus tours where their noses are pressed against windows, hop on a bike. Copenhagen provides 2,500 free “City Bikes” that anyone can use. Stations are located within walking distance of the main cruise terminal (there are two terminals in Copenhagen, with Langelinie closest to the city). Or for a real stretch of the legs, walk. Cycling, or strolling, though Copenhagen will lead you past the city’s most popular attractions at a pace that’s just right.
